The Investigations Unit provides professional investigative support which enhances the quality of life for the citizens and guests of Eagle County. Detectives are responsible for more complex and time consuming investigations, which ensures patrol deputies are available to respond to calls for service.  Detectives routinely work with patrol deputies and peace officers from around the country on a variety of cases.

Investigations often include major crimes such as:
  • Deaths
  • Homicides
  • Controlled Substance Distribution
  • Fires and Arson
  • Sexual Assaults
  • Child Abuse  
  • Embezzlements  
  • Identity Thefts
  • Robberies
  • Kidnappings
Detectives initially receive approximately 240 hours of specialized training.  Sheriff Van Beek and Undersheriff Loya are both former detectives and know the value of quality training.  For this reason detectives receive ongoing training throughout their careers.
All of the detectives are also instructors who train peace officers from around the country.

In addtion to the criminal investigations, detectives conduct pre-employment  background investigations and maintain the sex offender registry for Eagle County.
