The investigation into the shooting incident in Eagle County remains on-going. The following provides a brief update as to the status of the investigation as of February 2, 2023.
At the request of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) responded to the area to investigate the incident.
The incident occurred at a residence located in the 200 block of Beard Creek Road, Edwards, Colorado in the evening hours of Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
The disturbance involved an adult male subject (deceased) and an adult female. Investigators cannot confirm specifics about their relationship at this time. The identity of the deceased subject continues to be withheld until family notifications are made by the Coroner’s Office.
Based on the investigation to date, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.

Media Release: 02.01.23 - Officer Involved Shooting

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m. Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call for service in Edwards, Colorado involving a domestic disturbance between an armed male subject and a female.

Deputies attempted to assist with verbal commands to de-escalate the situation from the front porch. It was reported the male subject came outside with a gun. Shots were fired which resulted in the fatality of the armed male subject. No other injuries were reported.

The names of the subject and the deputies involved will not be released at this time. The Deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave as per Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Policy.

The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. When a deputy is involved in a shooting, protocol and Sheriff’s Office Policy and Operating Procedure is to immediately turn it over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). CBI will be the lead investigating agency in this incident to ensure it is investigated in a thorough, fair and impartial manner.
